Baking & Serving Tips

Make sure to get the most enjoyable and best experience out of our pies by following the baking instructions and serving tips below. These instructions are specific to Vegan Apple Pie. If you would like instructions for a different pie, please check that page.

Baked

If your Vegan Apple Pie is already baked, please store it in the fridge. For best results, the pie should be consumed within 4 days of purchase. Before serving please remove from fridge and leave at room temperature for 45 minutes. To warm, bring to room temperature for 45 minutes, and then place in preheated oven at 350°F. Warm a 9” pie for 20 minutes and a 5” for 10 minutes.

Frozen

If your Vegan Apple Pie is frozen, please store in the freezer until you are ready to bake and consume. For best results, the pie should be baked within 3 months of purchase. To bake, place pie on baking sheet (line with parchment paper to reduce mess) and place in preheated oven at 350°F. Bake a 9” for 90-120 minutes and a 5” for 50-60 minutes.

Once baked, cool the Vegan Apple Pie for a minimum of 1 hour before serving. The bottom of the pie tin should remain warm to the touch. If it is served too hot, the pie's consistency will be too runny.

Tips

  • With oven mitts on, tilt the baking sheet slightly. If the pie has a lot of juices flowing out it is not quite ready and you will have an under-baked crust. Pie juices should bubble and appear thickened and sticky when ready.
  • If the pie crust is getting too dark (especially the edges), lightly cover with aluminum foil to protect the crust.
  • The warmer the pie, the messier the cut. The sugar in the pie will become more fluid as it warms. Keep this in mind when serving that ‘perfect’ slice.
  • Want to freeze an already baked pie? While it is not best practice, it can be done. To thaw after freezing, place frozen pie in fridge for 12 hours and then follow Freshly Baked instructions above. Do NOT refreeze.

VerifiedKaren Louie said: Vegan Apple pie top was cracked.

I bought a vegan apple pie christmas eve. When I went to pick up there was a big crack on the pie top. When I asked, your staff said it was the last one (without checking) and said that sometimes pies do that. As for presentation for christmas dinner, it was lacking but the taste is what I know pie hole to be reputable for. Wish I was offered some compensation or bonus items. I understand vegan pies can perform differently than when butter is used.

>> thepiehole.com replied: Sorry the top of your pie had a crack in it, Karen. Every pie bakes a little differently so that does happen from time to time. Hopefully the taste was as good as you have come to expect! Thanks for the review :)
